ASTA Java Server The AstaJava Server uses AstaParamLists to allow Delphi, Palm and WinCE clients to communicate. The AstaJavaServer is certainly not a full ASTA server supporting all AstaClientDataSet features but is a SkyWire enabled server that can support SQL on the client and is quite easy to extend using ASTA messaging. Use Java Reflection, the AstaJava server can surface a form of ASTA "ServerMethods" by simply writing Java code. Clients can inquire of the server as to the methodnames and ParamTypes and then execute server methods. There are calls to be able to transfer JDBC result sets to remote clients using Asta SkyWire row/column Data structures that are simliar to Delphi TDataSets. There is also the Jasta server that uses JNDI to communicate with EJB Servers. The images below show an AstaJava server running and a Delphi client that connects to it and demonstrates the base functionality of Asta SkyWire servers. Palm and WinCE clients can communicate with ASTA SkyWire servers.
