Future plans for ASTA
We have variety of exciting future plans for the ASTA product line:
- Linux: We plan to support the upcoming Borland development
tools for Linux, codenamed "Kylix". Since ASTA uses the TDataSet
database abstraction, the Borland sockets interface, and does not use
COM or other Windows-only technologies, we believe that ASTA will move
easily to the Linux environment. The ASTA development has been working
with Linux for several months.
- Java Clients: We already have basic Java support (messaging
only) running, and are considering enhanced support - implementing the
full ASTA client side feature set User feedback on this concept is welcome!
The current messaging support is available
for download at no charge.
- Clustering: We have concepts on the drawing board to enhance
the Anchor Server functionality with a "clustering" approach
that would provide failover functionality and seamless communication
between users logged in to different ASTA servers
- Security: Enhanced security functionality, with strong
encryption in the box, ready to turn on if needed.
- An ODBC and/or OLE-DB driver/provider that would make
it possible to communication with the ASTA server using a wide range
of development tools, including Visual Basic and Visual C++.
