Aspen, an ASTA application
Aspen is an Internet client/server application that enables individual nonprofit agencies or agency coalitions to track a wide variety of
client information. Users can record, modify, and generate reports on
intakes, ctivities, outcomes, case notes, surveys and assessments,
case management goals, referrals, financial assistance, and more. The
program also provides an announcement service, a library of
downloadable files, a directory of referral agencies, and volunteer
information tracking. The ASTA middleware that is woven into both the
client and server applications facilitates all of these features.
There are over 80 reports available, four of which let users build
their own custom queries. Throughout the program, users can add their
own customized fields and updated lists of staff names, outcomes, etc.
by clicking on menu choices. Taking advantage of ASTA's capabilities,
Aspen provides internal email, instant messaging for connected users,
and remote administration functions.
Because the typical Aspen user has only modest "computer literacy",
the program is designed with ease-of-use as the paramount criteria.
All program features are documented through a built-in help system.
The Aspen client software runs briskly under any version of Windows
from Windows 95 on. It requires under 1 MB of disk space, and about 20
MB of memory. For more information, contact Mark Shapiro at
