A hospital in the Netherlands is testing a new system that was built with ASTA to relay Patient information via PocketPC's to the hospital. Below is a translation from a news release published originally in Dutch . The application was written with ASTA and Delphi for the Server and Win32 client and eVB (embedded Visual Basic free from Microsoft) using ASTA on a PocketPC and AstaCOMClient.dll
Patient data as disaster faster available for hospital 26 septemeber 2002 - The Calamity Hospital tested a new system that makes it possible to send patient data at the place of accident or disaster to the hospital. Before the patient arrives at the hospital, the phycisians will already know the care status of the patient. The new system has been tested for the first time in the Netherlands during an exercise of the Calamity hospital, in which the intake of a group physically injured and partly chemically contaminated patients was simulated. The new system has the advantage that care providers are well-prepared at the arrival of the patient and the preparation can be fine-tuned. At major accidents and disasters the amount of expected victims and the gravity of their injuries will be known, while identification and location of the Presently, physicians only know the condition of the victim at his arrival in the hospital; they miss accurate pre-information over the patient at the disaster location. With the new patient tracking system patients are scanned at the location of the accident and patient data are directly registered. This happens using an adjusted injury card, provided with a number and bar code. Through the number patient data such as name, condition and medical diagnosis are united. These data are scanned with a PDA with build-in barcode reader. Using a car of the mobile team or an ambulance data are transmitted through a wireless connection to the hospital to which the patient is sent. As soon as the patient arrives in the ambulance room of the hospital, his personal registration number is scanned using the patient barcode registration system and a barcode on a armlet, followed by the number of the injury card. This way patient data are tied with the hospital's patient barcode registration system.
