ASTA Web Service Tools

Since 1998 ASTA Web Services have been used by developers in over 70 countries to create thin client windows client applications that can run over the Internet. ASTA’s mature Application servers are known for their easy deployment, scalability and robustness.  ASTA uses the N Tier architecture as described in the following diagram:

In the spring of 1999 ASTA released the first Java messaging class and launched the ASTA Unified Messaging Initiative (UMI). The goal of UMI is to provide cross platform messaging on all platforms. In the year 2000, ASTA extended UMI to support handheld devices such as the Palm, Wince and Linux PDA’s and in Q3 2000 released Code Warrior C++ Classes for the Palm OS and eVC++ Classes for the Wince. These C++ Classes allow for Palm and Wince devices to use ASTA Messaging to communicate with remote ASTA Application servers.

ASTA has always provided support for online as well as offline users. One of the great limitations of browser technology is that it is only available when you are connected to the Internet. The ASTA architecture was designed to support Online and Offline users and to be able to synchronize and merge information created in either state. This feature is particularly important for remote handheld clients, as they were not designed to stay connected to remote servers but depend on “Synchronization” techniques to merge and fetch data from desktop or remote sources. ASTA Windows Clients have always had the ability to use “Cached” updates built on top of a row/column abstraction known as the TDataSet. ASTA is committed to implementing the features it has had since 1997 for Windows Clients to all platforms and for all popular development tools.
